can anyone tell me if it is time to dig up the daff bulbs to store for next year, or will it be alright to just put put some soil on top and plant something over the top many thanks.

Wait until the leaves have died back at least halfway, then you can plant on top and around them,, if they are a bit close to the surface a couple of extra inches of topsoil or compost will help to ensure they don't come up blind next year.

I agree with Rowanwitch. I just plant in the same area and if I managed to dig up any bulbs in the process I just replant them along with the new plantings, making sure they are deep enough. Daffodils are very forgiving.

I like to plant them about 6" for small bulbs and 9" for `bigguns` to naturalise them, but do wait at least 6 weeks after flowering has finished and give them a feed every week or so as they die down to nourish the bulb. If you wish you can dig them up now and transplant them in a spare piece of soil about 4" deep until they die down.
Like LoftyLottie says, they are very forgiving.
