Still a requirement in Northern Ireland.

After the 1987 abolition of dog licensing Labour (in Opposition) published a commitment to introduce a nationwide compulsory registration scheme to fund dog wardens This obviously never came to pass during their 13 years of governance, however many local authorities do offer a voluntary registration service.

i think they should still have them, even if its only £10, during the process you should be checked for a history of animal abuse and refused a licence if you are likely to reoffend and mistreat the poor animal.

as always, enforcement is the problem. Good pet owners will get screwed and the barstewards won't comply...the police can't even stop people driving without a licence or insurance for goodness sake

it might only be a few pounds, and you get checked over to see if you are suitable, the good owners should be thankful that the welfare of their pets would be being considered.

Nice in theory molly but as wolfgang says the police can't enforce the laws we've already got, for instance how many times in a day do you see drivers using their mobiles and getting away with it. The normal pet loving owners would comply and the riff-raff would just ignore it and yes lardy you'd probably need one for your avatar
