I currently work as an art technician at a local secondary school.....i'm signed off sick at the moment (domestic stress). I'm also graduating this year from my Art Degree. I'm a little confused about what my next step should be. I've spoken to my lecturers and tutors and they say i should apply for my Masters (which i want to do) also after speaking to a friend who works at the local further ed college he suggested that I did the Post Grad Certificate in Education (PGCE) so then i would be qualified to teach in further education. He says that its possible to do them at the same time as I would do the MA part time over 2 years and the PGCE is only 1 day a week for 2 years. The thing is i dont know what to do about my job?? If i do both courses i wont be able to work aswell. I have to 2 children (1 and 5) and i'm a single mother so i just wouldnt be able to do it all and it wouldnt be fair on the kids. Just not sure if giving up work is a good idea???I know its good to stay in employment and it looks good on the CV etc....

What does everyone think?

Would be grateful of any advice

I would go for the PGCE first then, then do the MA. I've heard that the PGCE is quite intense even though you only have to be in uni one day a week so wouldn't recommend doing them both at the same time.

Do you want to teach? If you do then you should do the PGCE. A Masters won't get you any further as a teacher. Do the PGCE first, get a teaching job ( a PGCE will qualify you to teach in schools), then pursue the MA. Good luck.

I would like to teach in college's or lecture in Uni.

The reason I want to do the MA is more for the fact I can continue to pursue my real dream of being a practicing artist....
