On behalf of the farmers, can I just say that not ALL farmers hate foxes!! Those without livestock tend to encourage foxes because they help keep the rabbits down.

Jack - your point about hen house security seems a fair one - except that if there is a way in and out for the hens, then there is the same for a fox, so it's unavoidable that a fox has access.

When were the police called before or after the hospital ? Who actually rang the hospital , the parents or the police ? Why were the police called anyway ? Is it a crime ?

I have been bitten and stung by a variety of wild animals from bees to an injured squirrel I was trying to help. Should I have called the police ?

Just heard on BBC news that the mother is claiming to have seen a fox inside the house at the relevant time.
The bulletin also stated that a trap was subsequently laid which resulted in a fox being caught in it which was then destroyed. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...................

Why is it such an impossiblility? They lived in the city probably had no opinion on how evil foxes are. I leave my doors open all the time at night. Foxes are stealthy enough they would no doubt manage to sneak past me. They are natural killers so why wouldn't sleeping babies seem a natural target to a curious fox. For the record, I admit I am no fan of them. They have caused me upset when my hens were torn apart and scattered around the garden (and from what I could see they hadn't killed to eat) unlike when they had taken the rabbits. Saying that I'm neither here nor there on the hunting issue.

I don't think its anything fishy myself, no matter how rubbish I think the police can be at times I am sure they would have picked up on something funny going on by now.

There is no basis in criminal law for the Police to have been involved in this particular matter. No criminal offences were committed, were they? The fox could not be held liable - end of.

Thanks Andy Hughes for picking me up correctly. I was refering to humans killing for fun. I am totally against the barbarism of tearing an animal aprt for fun. What I know about the new government, the propoganda machine, and their loyalties and repeal objectives would make your teeth curl. It was really just a matter of time before the fox became either demonised again to pave the way for hunting to be legalised. Another theory is that ther could be sympathy propoganda. Example stories of foxes being inhumanely and cruelly controlled and the need for hunts to resume "control" in a proper fashion. I don't believe the truth will ever come out in this story. The papers often report the "alleged" bad whilst omitting to report what actually happened later.

It seems plausible to me and rather scary. City dwellers do not usually shut their doors to keep out foxes, though maybe more will now do so.

why does the media feel it relevent to mention the price of the house? or do they think that the fox only wanted to be associated with a more expensive property!

I have always lived in a town/city's outskirts. No, quite right, I don't keep a door shut to keep out foxes, I keep it shut to keep out everybody/everything. Especially burglars. Doesn't everyone ? If the fox wishes to come in it will have to ring the doorbell and show me some identicifation.
