Hello, wow didn't expect to be posting a question like this!

I'd just like some advice and any thoughts or experiences would help me out a lot. I've just broken up with my boyfriend, I'm heart-broken & I just want one less thing to worry about!

I'm on the pill and have been for a few years. For the past few months though I admit I have been very irresponsible with it - missing it for days then taking one pill then missing another couple of days etc.

I split up with my boyfriend on Monday & decided to take a break from the pill for a while. A couple of days later I realised with horror that I couldn't remember when my last period was so I immediately bought a couple of home tests. They both showed up negative so I breathed a sigh of relief and thought nothing more of it.

But I was chatting with my friend yesterday and she said that i should really have had a period by now, and if I don't come on by next week I should do another test because the other two may be inaccurate if I haven't actually 'missed' my period yet. Does that make sense?

yes it does.

Wait a week, if no period, take another. Take a test a week unless period arrives
If no period within another month then see GP
they could be inaccurate tests but also the periods you had while on the pill wernt proper periods, so your body may just be getting used to you not taking the pill and you may not be regular for a while. I'd say if no period for a month go to docs xx

Thanks for the replies girls.
That's what my friend said - that the bleeding you have whilst on the pill isn't actually a period? Either way I haven't had any for a good few weeks. Oh dear...
but the worry ontop of it may delay it too. Did you not have a bleed on your last break?

I didn't have a pill free break last time. My ex was in the military and we didn't see each other a lot, so I decided to just take the pack through last month - as I often did. I did have some spotting last month though which is good news?
My period took aaaaages to come back after pill. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll turn up. x
i came off the pill and apart from a little bit of spotting now and again did not have a period for about 8 months!
First of all, I'm not Merciasounds, I'm Sue her neighbour and I'm a nurse.

What you get between pills isn't a period as such, it's withdrawl bleeding - it might take a few months for your periods to become regular again. 'False' tests do occur, but are pretty rare. Anxiousness and being upset can delay things too, I wouldn't worry too much, I would put your chances of being pregnant at less than 10%.
you can get false negatives easily if you've tested too early as it simply means that, if you are pregnant, there won't be enough hcg in your system. A false positive, however, is very rare indeed and generally if you get a positive, you're pregnant. Hope this helps. x
