Ah I was on my 2nd car well before I passed my test lol!
First car was Cassie, 1.3 green KA, 1996, she was cute! But she died a death and was not worth fixing!
Then got myself a gorgeous '06 Megane 2ltr! Ok she is rather expensive insurance wise and to run, but I love her!
Hope you have as much fun in your motor benny, as I do in mine!

Check the coolant level regularly, because if it overheats that is a surefire head gasket.
Some of these Rovers had no expansion bottle, so it doesn't need to lose much water before you hit trouble.
Also make sure you have anti freeze in for the winter.
Frozen radiator = overheating engine = goodbye head gasket.

The K-series engine is prone to gasket failure due to the nature of the seals within the gasket (a type of mastic) it's the larger engines that seem to suffer most from this affliction, so you might be ok.
As you've been informed, the correct anti-freeze in the correct amount and the right amount of coolant should get you through the next few years.
Good luck with it.
