Low iron

why do you crave ice when you are low on iron in the body?

That's the first time I have heard of that, where did you get that information from?

I was at the hospital for a migraine and they did blood work. And said i was very low on iron. And I had been eating ice for about two months. And had 2 people tell me I must be low on iron. So I asked the doctor when he said that and he said yes people who are low on iron crave and eat ice. CRAZY, but I do and didnt before.

Thank you. Thats fascinating. Its called pica and apparently is quite unusual and not limited to craving ice. No one seems to know why

Wow I never heard of this before but when I was pregnant I was really anemic and just about all I ate (certainly all I wanted to eat) was ice poles. Cool, that explains that then, thanks

I thought it was strange that I had this craving for ice but never knew the reason why!

With all 3 of my pregnancies I craved ice, and my iron levels were dangerously low, I never connected the 2 until I saw this!! Gave me a shock!

Its strange, because whenever I am doing the Ironing I'd rather be eating Ice cream.
