With petrol in my area now at 90 p a litre, is ther an advantage to be had having a gas conversion? does anyone have one and what about performance and mpg anyone please

Slightly lower mpg/performance. Need car engine suitable for unleaded. Tank will take up spare wheel space or boot space (why they can't take out original fuel tank beats me.)

Basically no chance of them reducing the tax rates on fuel. I looked into it seriously a few years ago. You need to be doing around 10K miles a year for it to be cost effective, of course the more miles you do the better it becomes.
The thing that bothered me was that stations offering LPG were few and far between and I wasn't happy about the fact I might not be able to find one whilst out.
Having said that in most cases you keep the original fuel tank and just switch between the 2, so if you can't find an LPG pump you just use normal unleaded.

I have a friend who runs an LPG converted Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 - only way he can afford to run it. Having driven it, it's not obviously whether you're on gas or petrol. May not bother you, but cars with gas tanks are not currently allowed on Eurotunnel. Sceptical me just wonders how long before our government, (of whatever shade), start to increase duty/tax rates on road gas ?
