i have a mate who has chrohns disease and he does suffer with it - forever boring the pants of everyone with his tales of woe ( dont get me wrong i know its serious, but he never stops moaning)
having said that, he spends all his time in the pub, so he is not housebound etc

i have no problem wiht him getting help with mobility and getting a car because of this...

but they give him a choice - an he ends up with bmws and merc etc...very nice, new, modern cars...

how is this possible? and why wouldnt they just give him a micra or fiesta or something?

is there some other thing hes getting these from? he shows off a bit too

i just dotn get it (dont like to ask because dont want to seem like i am against it)

thanks

People who are entitled to the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowamce have a choice/
They can keep the dosh or use that money to lease a very cheap car OR pay a huge lump sum up front, use their mobility allowance AND pay extra every month to lease a fancy pants car.
Lots of people settle for something in between and add to their monthly allowance to get a straightforward car.
Whatever they choose, they get the same amount of dosh from the government.
joko, you seem to be the one not reading - the govt pays the same amount of DLA whether the person gets a "top notch bmw" or a micra
hc, the extra money is all paid up front after that you only pay your allowance

bednobs...no its actually you...i was answering cazzz in that statement...no-one else
I agree with Missrandom. Mrs Wak has had Crohn's for 20 years now and lost a third of her body weight before they found out what it was. She then had two ops to remove parts of the stomach. It's an inflammation of the stomach complaint and doesn't affect your legs or mobility as far as I'm aware. I also agree that he shouldn't be in the pub.
Sounds a bit like benefit fraud to me.
My daughter gets the higher rate of DLA and she is severely disabled, by that i mean cannot walk, cannot talk, is incontinent and needs 24 hour care. She has a genetic condition called Hyper Melonosis of Ito and have thought about getting Motability for her.......but she can't drive?
Garmard you could claim DLA mobility for her. She would be be awarded the payment to help you transport her around, either by taxi or with the aid of a vehicle from Motability. My neighbour claimed for her hubby after he had a stroke and they got a vehicle they had to have adapted to take his wheelchair. She drives it though.
Garmard, I'm not sure but I think you'll be able to get a motability car on you're daughters DLA if she needs to be moved etc If you go to the motability site you should be able to find out. You can even get them fitted with wheelchair hoists etc
Garmard, just scrowl through this link it will tell you all you need to know about claiming
http://www.motability...?Type=AIE&Source=Home
Garmard a friend of mine has a severely disabled daughter and she gets a car through mobility, she does have to pay some towards it though as it's quite a big people carrier They need the space for the wheelchair (the car was adapted so you could just wheel the chair on and strap it in), other child and shopping.
My partner also has a mobility car, she has a citroen berlingo, we chose a higher van like vehicle for our dogs, we had to pay a large sum up front top enable us to get this very nice car and she has to give up her mobility allowance as well. It really is a great scheme but I'm sure can also be abused by some, it is actually a very stringent testing regime to qualify for mobility, it isn't just handed to someone with a bad back and a limp!
