On page 7 of the Penguin edition of Doctor Thorne Trollope refers to Lady Arabella de Courcy as the sister of the great Whig Earl (de Courcy) Yet further down the page he refers to her as having thorough Whig aspirations as became the Daughter of a Great Whig Earl. Is she his sister or daughter?

I haven't read the book, I must confess, but I'd imagine she is the sister of the CURRENT Earl de Courcy and that the father of BOTH of them was the PREVIOUS Earl de Courcy. The answer to your question would, therefore, be...both!
