I would always thaw in cold water...I really do not trust the microwave-they come out ever so slightly warm...eeeuuww.
The Cumberland sausages I've just taken out of the freezer tell me to cook from frozen on the instructions, so that's what I'll do. Odd tho, I thought you were meant to defrost them before cooking
I think it is different when they've been commercially frozen.
How long does it take to defrost a sausage . Probable about a hour. If marinading just drop the sausages in the marinade frozen ,this will aid thawing.
I think it would be better to put them into a plastic bag before defrosting in water as when they do defrost, all the water will come out of them and water down the marinade
Ive often cooked sausages from frozen and cooked them in the George Foreman grill,

I must say I prefer sausages grilled though.
I always defrost in the microwave at about 40% of the power, 3 minutes at a time
