Finding title for a fiction book
2 Answers
Trying to find a book written about 30-plus years ago in the genre of Mary Stewart.
I can't recall the author or title but the plot is:
A young single mother is asked to interview the now-blind father of her son who was injured when he was drunk-driving & killed someone. He was her professor in college & has no idea who she is or that they even have a son, Ewen, together. The son, Ewen, loves animals. He is very interested in the writer's (his father's, unknown to him) seeing-eye German Shepherd dog.
Subplot: The woman's ex-husband is trying to get back at her. His name is Dauntry & he is a scientist. Her son Ewen does not know she was once married to Dauntry who is lecturing at Ewen's school.
The woman is also inheriting an old house with mysterious drafts.
It ends with her accidentally revealing herself to the blind writer by exclaiming "Dinna fash yourself" (an old Scottish saying). He recalls who she is. They find hidden valuable paintings in the house which turn out to be the writer's inheritance through a bizarre series of events. It really is a superbly-written book & I can't wait to learn who wrote it so I can get it again!
