dead-eye, many thanks but somehow I don't think I'm going to complete this, will have one last look, and will post here if I do get it.

The three normal clue answers and the 2 'jumbles' at 11ac and 33ac are each codes to produce a further 5 clues, the answers to which fit in the remaining 5 lights. The code is given by single words in every other clue (26 in all) eg 'city' in 1ac = J
