Mobile Phone Query

Hi this is probably a stupid question but as a bit of a technphobe please forgive me! Here goes.... I have a phone with O2 and want to buy the new Samsung Genio Slide which is only available on Vodaphone Contract or Vodaphone Pay as you Go. Would I need to get this "un-locked" if I wanted to use my O2 Sim in it and roughly how much would "unlocking" cost?
