Ref my previous posting "Help needed" 19 Aug.Thanks for the info dotty I can see by your reply that I have been misled chasing the wrong James. As you say this one was born in St leonards and mine in Birmingham. The reason I am searching for him is a story was handed down in my family that we had a famous boxer in the family. Unfortunately I am 84 and have no relatives alive who are older than me that could help.
I am now looking at the 1891 census and my gt/grandmother Ellen Carney born 1821 has a grandson James 1879 staying with her. I wonder if this could be the boxers son and that he did not marry but had a mistress. How I will find out I do not know but will keep trying and hope someone may be able to help. Thanks again and Goodnight. Harry

I've found the ellen carney you've mentioned in a tree on ancestry her fusband was John carney and she had a son James aged 12 in 1861, from what i can see she had a son patrick 3 years older than her son ames but ther other children were daughters and so the james in 1891 (her grandson) is from one of the sons, BUT
the same ellen carney and husband john are in another tree on ancestry and there's something abit odd there, the person whose done the tree has the father john married to two women and having two families at the same time, one in liverpool and one in birmingham!! he must have had a bike! Anyway I'm not trusting that one just yet!
there is no sign in the tree of where james snr was in 1881 or 1891 , so i'll have a mooch about and see if he turns up with his son james aged 2-3 in 1881.

Oh crikey just realised that there is a michael carney , he's living with the liverpool branch of the (possibly bigamous) family in 1881 !!! and there is a child james born 1879! If that John carney that the family tree in ancestry has as having the two familes is right, then it would mean your james was living in liverpool aged 2 with a father michael in 1881. but that his grandfather John was somehow the head of two families, I can't tell from the info on the tree what makes the tree owner believe that the two john carneys are the same person.
Hi dotty. Thanks again you have certainly been busy. It looks so confusing now. There are so many Carneys. Each time I turn one up the birth dates vary so much I do not know who is who. I have contact with a person in New Zealnd who is also chasing James senior who he says comes from Rugeley in Staffs. Mine is from Birmingham as I have his birth certificate
showing he was born 20 Oct 1856. I think his must be James brother. You have given me more to go on so will carry on searching. I will let you konow if anything else comes up. Bye for now.Harry
