what is wrong with me? i had a bad stomach last night, my hubby and i had been out for wine and nibbles then suddenly i had dreadful stomach cramps. i ended up on the floor of a toilet cubicle while we were out as i thought i was going to pass out. ive still got dreadful lower tummy pains and there is still a few groans. ive had 2 crumpets, a cup of tea and half a twirl this morning as fancied something sweet. i just dont understand why im in such pain still though no cramping now. i had a sore throat since sun afternoon though just down one side, thats gone now strangely. wonder if it is a bug or something i hate though hubby had exactly same to eat and hes absolutely fine. what can i do to get rid of this awful miserable stomach pain? feels heavy, sore, painful!

just had to run to loo. i think there is blood showing in with whats left, what could it be. i hate beetroot a few days ago but that would have come out with solid stuff first last night. sorry to be so graphic but i am getting worried and not wanting to think the worst whatever that could be. any ideas?
Phone NHS direct?
sounds like it might be norwalk to me, aka norovirus aka winter vomitting. 48 hours of total horror :-(
Take it easy, eat or drink what you feel you can keep down. Stay away from the elderly, babies and frail folk and be rigorous in your hygiene as this spreads really easily. If you work in the care sector, check on the rules for returning to work, in the NHS its 48 hours after the last attack. The blood sounds to me like you broke a blood vessel low in your bowel with the straining. How much blood and is it bright red?
Could be dozens of things.
1) Any diarrhoea or vomiting?
2) How old are you?
3) Are you still menstruating...if so what part of the cycle are you in?
4) Are you on any medication?
5) The stomach pains....colicky or constant.
6) Centre low or to the left or right of the stomach?

btw not taking any meds though took 2 ibuprofen last night and a sleeping tablet to help me get off ie zopiclone?
Had you been constipated during the last few weeks?
Question Author
no, not at all. i just want to get rid of this constant horrible ache. can i take any tablets for it?
Well, I would suggest that you try Ibuprofen 600mgms and then monitor the situation.
It certainly does sound viral in origin, but norovirus usually involves vomiting which you have avoided.

Keep in contact.

thanks sqad, just about to take some tablets then will try and get some sleep. will just keep to water i think though starving!
Only sip the water, don't down whole glasses at a time. Rest, avoid solids for 24 hours, then have bland food for at least 2 days: banana, hard boiled egg, plain white rice, poached chicken breast, toast dry or with a little non-dairy spread; plain crackers. AVOID LACTIC DAIRY. If you can get some of those glucose sweets, they will help replenish some energy, as will the bananas if you have them. Diet fizzy drinks will replenish lost salts. Don't have those proprietary post-illness drinks, they're horrible.
well, if it was me - if i was has PR bleeding (per rectal) than i would deffinatley go and see a doctor, especially coupled with abdo pains - if you live in england just take yourself to an NHS walk - in - centre and see a doctor there.

i also suffer with a lot of stomach pains - but i have bad reflux - and that can cause stomach pains, its very wierd. sometimes i have bad acid, and get a sore throat too - apparently its the acid reflux reaching right up to my throat. usually anti-acids solve the problem. ive had bleeding before, but not PR bleeding - it was most likley caused by me pushing too hard when i went to toilet! LOL! they gave me co-codamol which causes constipation thats why - them, along with anti-acids, anti histamines and anti-biotics it was no wonder!

by the way - one thing i do know - if you ever feel a tearing or ripping pain in your stomach - go to A+E straight away as it could be life threatening if its an aortic anureysm. (soz cant spell!) youd know about it anyways - because the pain would be unbearable, and you woudnt be online posting questions!
hi nextqueen,

I had the exact same thing two weeks ago. I was so near passing out because of the pain. I have had food poisoning and bad viruses in the past but I have NEVER EVER had it like this. I really feel for you. I had nausea but no vomiting just bad runs and very bad pains.

I did go to the docs and he put it down to possibly an indian that I had that night, a case of someone not washing their hands after going to the toilet! I still have pains in my left lower abdomen and I have lots of mucus from down there. (sorry) The pain in the abdomen even now can be acute. Hope it's not something serious.

Funny, like you I felt very hungry the day after and the doc did say that if I feel hungry then eat. He said my body will tell me what to do. If I don't feel hungry, don't eat.
I hope you feel better soon.

Icexx
