Can anyone make my day and tell me they really actually know somebody who has actually been fined for littering? As far asI know the signs everywhere that"threaten" a fine of up to £1000 are just B**lsh*t and total bluff from the police can someone genuinly prove me wrong? Are there any official figures released and if so where?I'm sick of the state of our streets awash with takeaway cartons, crisp packets, plastic drinks bottles etc;etc; lets start a movement to collect afew bagfulls and dump it on our M.P.s front door steps!

And I found this about your own fair city:

Spurred on by the thought of a bit of extra cash, many cities have launched new litter campaigns. Manchester, for example, has successfully fined perpetrators up to £500, with sometimes as much as £288 in court costs. The council also has a policy of naming and shaming those prosecuted on its website. CCTV is being used to catch offenders, and some local authorities are introducing environmental wardens who have the power to impose on-the-spot fines and who deal with anti-social behaviour, including littering.
my boyfriend was fined for dropping a cigarette...

the mad thing was is was a full, still lit cigarette that he was still smoking...it was knocked from his hand by his mate and a CSO saw this and fined him...even though he immediately picked it up an carried on smoking it...

so yes they do fine people...some are even a bit over zealous...

( im not defending him because does sometimes drop finished butts...which i tell him off for)
What about the guy who was in the papers who came out of a shop, went to put his tenner change in his back pocket and missed, dropping the note on the ground and was fined for littering? But on the other hand I live near a MacDonalds and there are always wrappers and empty cups and cartons lying in my street.
yes i know of a few
Karen I think with that story he actually intended to drop some litter (receipt?) but the tenner went with it.
I seem to remember one or two people in Leeds being fined for dropping cigarette ends. I only wish they'd catch the barstwards who don't pick up after their dogs.
