Scottish wills
Hi there my mum sadly past away in june, now 12 weeks on her husband of 10 years has now also past away. My little sister who is 18 lived with them both from 8 years old is know left with nothing as my mums husbands sister is the only blood relative and has took it apon herself to take over all of his finances (£50,000)as there was no wills. Could anybody please tell me if my sister has a claim on this as his sister is being unreasonable in not helping her out and thinks she is entitle to keep it all. It is very sad that this can happen when we all know where my Mum and her Husband would have wanted there assets to go. Thanks for any help you can offer

"Many people assume that when they die, their possessions, such as their home, furniture, jewellery and savings, will automatically go to their wife or husband, their partner or their children.
In fact this is not the case. If you die 'intestate', that is, without leaving a will, the law decides who gets your possessions, not you or your partner or family."
Your sister needs to see a solicitor.

Treat this whole situation like a dog with a bone, do not let go until every avenue has been pursued. I was in a similar situation a few years back. My dad and his partner made a will, he died, she changed it leaving everything to her son, less than year later she died, within six weeks of her dying (alcohol poisoning) her son died too (same illness) all the the assets when to his children who he was never allowed to see anyway. Me and my brother were left with nothing......
