Ok, get it off your chest - I bet there is at least one pair of songs you know of, the second of which made you think "hang on a minute! - that sounds exactly like (insert song title) !"

One of my "rip-off outrage" songs is "jerk it out" by the caesars - the verses of which are a blatant rip-off of Girls On Film. You can literally sing the lyrics to Girls On Film over it.

So to simplify - here's a suggested template:

Jerk It Out by The Caesars/Girls On Film - Duran Duran
Taxman - The Beatles/Start - The Jam (identical bass-line)

(inspired by sallabananas' Up The Junction thread)

Wrong way round isn't it ABerrant? Huey Lewis's track was a single in 1980. ELO's track was around 1977/78
ELO seem to be very popular for ripping off. Paul Weller seems to think the intro for 10538 Overture was so good he hardly bothered to change it at all -

And the ripped off version -

Steely Dan with Rikki Dont Lose that number

Steely Dan - Rikki
A 1960s group called Love had an anti drug song called Signed DC

This is VERY VERY similar (at least the "tune") as Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues

Love - Signed DC
Not forgetting 'Hotel California' by The Rolling Stones... and 'Angie' by The Eagles

;-p
Hands up - I misremembered part of the "Do You Believe In Love" history...

I recalled that it was a cover of an earlier song written by "Mutt" Lange but confused myself, thinking the original was recorded before ELO's "Sweet Talkin' Woman", whereas the original by Supercharge did not appear until 1979.

I always thought Oasis's Don't Look Back in Anger was very like Sowing the Seeds of Love by Tears for Fears
the opening of half of my heart by john meyer sounds a lot like lady antebellum's need you now
Yep- see my post in Music about Alexandra Burke, but perhaps that was sampled because it sounds very very similar!
