Can't help further. I watched it but wasn't taking particular notice at that point. You are right when you say that a "tenner" would have represented a lot of money then, certainly less than a year's wages, but quite likely 2 months' wages. I can't imagine the "lower orders" using the term "tenner" because of its rarety. On the other hand it might just be an anachronism on the part of the scriptwriters. You only have to look at the late unlamented series "The Tudors" to take my point.
If he did indeed use the term 'tenner', perhaps he would have been referring to a ten bob note (ten shillings)?
