Internet Connection Speed?

I have just changed my ISP from AOL to ICUK today. The main reason I changed was that AOL had gone drastically downhill, with a connection speed of 754 Kbps all the time. Not even enough to watch a video on youtube. ICUK get great feedback, and the contract lasts only 1 month, so you don't get caught paying for rubbish speeds for 18 months or whatever.

Anyway, guess what my speed indicator says now? 100 Mbps. This can't be right, can it? I can detect the huge improvement in performance, but surely it isn't possible to get more than 20 Mb. What is going on?

Are you on ADSL or Broadband cable? It is possible to get 100Mbps as I get it on my broadband cable using the DOCSIS 3.0 system my ISP provides. Check if you have signed up for this when you changed over.

You are seeing the speed your computer is connected to the router at, which is totally independent to the speed your router is connected to the internet.

Ahhh...thanks a lot for the info guys. I am on ADSL, but don't think I signed up for anything special. I did the speed test and download was 4.85 Mbps - about double what they predicted when I signed up. I am well chuffed with that. I was beginning to think a decent connection was a thing of the past.
