I have just connected to broadband with BT. I can connect initially without problem, but as soon as I change the page the connection drops out. BT's helpdesk said it was a problem with the power managementof the USB port (a three year old Time computer) and suggested I download updated drivers from VIA Arena. When this didn't work a second guy at BT suggested a USB hub with its own power supply. Has anybody else had this problem and will this solution work?
This is a known problem with the older VIA chipset and the Alcatel modem which apparently draws too much power. The only way I have seen this fixed is changing the mainboard to a non VIA chipset one (this was after changing to a powered USB hub and installing a non-VIA chipset PCI USB card). I am not sure whether changing the modem would help (to a Westell one?) perhaps that is something you should ask BT. I predict that this will be a major problem as more people to to broadband.
Have exactly the same problem as you, we've tried downloading new drivers for the motherboard without success. We ordered a usb card for 12 inc delivery from dabs and it does work.
