Audi A4 windscreen wiper

I have and Audi A4 and over the last few days when driving the back windscreen wiper starts wiping randomly withouth me switching it on to work, does anyone know why? Driving me nuts scrapping on a dry window.

I once had that problem with a Fiat Punto, I drove all the way from Bristol to West Yorkshire and the rear wiper would not turn off.
I discovered the reason was that when we had shut the hatchback lid, we had jammed something in the connections that, on a Punto, are near the hatchback lid catch.
If your Audi A4 has similar connections it is worth checking

Either that, or it is the column stalk switch.
