wall mounted key safe

Do you think the wall mounted key safes, outside a front door, are safe or could they be easily broken into?

The one I fitted this morning was for a lady who has had her lower leg amputated and is not very mobile yet. She will have carers calling over the next few weeks...
The carers come from an agency... the agency can't go having loads of keys cut to hand out to all the carers, otherwise they would be carrying keys round in a wheelbarrow.
So the carers are given the code for the safe... and have no need to carry keys.

One I fitted yesterday was for a semi retired active lady who has had her keys stolen from her car. The expense involved in having the locks changed has prompted her to have a keysafe fitted in a hidden place, so if it ever happened again, she can still gain access.
Mine is fitted in a covert spot ... my son and daughter cant be bothered carrying keys when they go out ... so when they return in the middle of the night, they only need to tap in the code to get into the house.

Dont laugh ... I was enjoying a quiet morning... alone at home. I went out to put something in the bin and the cat went to claw the side of the door and pushed it closed on me... no keys, no phone a van full of tools that would have opened it in seconds, and my van keys indoors..!
That was the best reason for fitting it..!

i don't understand how a key safe advertises you have something worth stealing. Surely most people with a key safe have them because other people need access and they can't get to the front door? (meaning they are in anyway, so surely deterring burglars?)

Also, the comment about someone crowbarring it off and then taking it home to open while you get the locks changed is a good thing? you haven't been burguled and the would-be-burglar has old keys which are useless. Plus the box dosen't have to be on display

Sure, as long as you don't mind changing the locks every time some clown nicks it.

Never ever ... been to replace a keysafe that has been nicked .... why would you steal one ?... if you are capable of stealing one ... you are capable of opening the door.
I've been out to plenty where an attempt has been made to screwdriver/prise it open, to my knowledge, I've never seen one opened this way.

This post has promted me to check how many I've fitted .. it appears to be over 2000
Remember we are still talking about the safe mentioned earlier, not the run of the mill cheap alternatives.

I would call those an "unsafe" for various reasons.
Don't leave crown lewels in it.
