Daily it does not matter what part of the country you live in we hear about road crashes involving young drivers, it's either, the persons are handicapped for life or whatever, how & what can be done to either reduce or stop it

The young don't see the danger in speed, older drivers are less likely to take risks. Sadly, so many drivers are uninsured too these days (insurance being expensive) so the victims can't easily claim redress for their injuries. An 18-year-old here mowed down 3 women on their way to church a few weeks ago, took a bend much too fast and ploughed into them.

loads of things have been suggested from restricting the engine size of cars that can be driven by young people, increasing the age when you can get a license, and having no night driving for the first year,,,Would suggest restricting engine size would simply encourage manufacturers to increase HP by reducing weight, Not allowing drivers under 21 to carry passengers would allow them to drive to and from work but would create problems for families...I suspect only an increase in the age limit would have any effect....how about 60 for all and you get a free old person hat when you pass your test

also, getting young people to look before they cross the road may help, I have slowed many times when kids oblivious to traffic just wander into the road wearing their ipods, do parents not teach the green cross code anymore?

it shouldnt always be the motorists fault.

And no one would drive faster than 29mph except my 63 year old housemate who thinks speed limits are loose guidelines

I think you're right cazz, people are so used to walking everywhere with their ears plugged in, makes no sense to me at all.

The bloke who killed a couple I knew was 61, the woman who hesitated and caused young Danny to hit a deisel spill 9and die instantly) was 47, the woman who ran into me on the M6 in 1981 when i had my 6 week old son in the car was in her 50s, so not sharing your observation there.

they should be more visually aware if they insist on listening to music when walking, there are so many that are not, its pure luck that they have not been killed or seriously injured. we live in a blame culture now so you can be ignorant as a pedestrian and just blame any car for any accidents.

Ooh Cazzz, touched a nerve there! I live near a college, by a main road one side and the shops etc on the other side. Naturally there's a crossing but it doesn't matter whether they have right of way, they will still dodge traffic, causing drivers who are in the right to slow or stop. Green cross code should be on the curruculum

Make the test much harder, Limit new drivers to 40mph for 6 months,Limit the carrying of passengers to one front seat passenger for 1 year and finally limit the engine size.

the speed side of it can be done! HGVs limited to 56mph & sealed on the Fuel pump, this can be & should be with a person or person within their first 6..12 months of driving.

Until the test includes driving on a skid pan, night driving,Motorway
and fast driving the carnage will continue. We wouldn't accept an airline pilot taking up a four engined full of passengers if his training had been in a Cessna, why do we accept the equivalent in driving ?

The technology is already here, the tachograph, no person under 25 should be allowed to drive without one, once a month the recording must be submitted for appraisal, OK its not perfect but it is a start, I just do not want young lives being lost anymore due to youthful exhuberance and inexperience.
