Looks like there were problems in the north east last night as I lost my Internet connection all of a sudden as did my friend (who's with a different provider). Internet light went off on wireless router but all other lights on. Finally found out from recorded helpline this morning that there had been problems but should now be sorted by rebooting the router. Had already done this last night to no avail and ended up switching it off through the night. This morning I tried again a few times but Internet light still won't come on. Is there anything else I can check before phoning India? They weren't the best last time I had a problem so willing to try anything first!!!

Connect to your router's admin page - http://192.168.1.254
Press the button labeled CONNECT.
there is a re-set button on your homehub.. you'll need a pin or pen to push it in, it's in a tiddly hole. hold it down for 10 secs and the hub will re-set.

I had to phone India for my mum a couple of weeks ago, they said "your mother (I can't do the accent, btw!) had had her hub on for over 8 weeks continuously. tell her to turn it off for a while!" so, you should be turning off your hub overnight. you don't lose anything. I switch mine off every night.

best of luck, hope you don't have to make that call!
sara3, we have never switched off the BT hub & have never had a problem, do you think those in India were fobbing you off ?
this might have affected you http://www.bbc.co.uk/...hern-ireland-11656851

Vagrant - where do I type that number in? Can use computers fine but am a bit clueless when it comes to problems!! When I go into Internet Explorer that's when it comes up with "we have detected a problem" etc.

Sara3 - I've got an old fashioned white hub, can't see a reset button or tiddly hole anywhere!!
if you reset it you will need to either use the CD that came with it to setup your username and wireless again (or simply connect to it manually by typing http://192.168.1.254 in a browser window and enter your username in the settings section)
Typer it into a web browser (Internet Explorer or whatever you use) or just click on my link.
buffy, ring them and demand a black hub, they're *supposed* to be better.

whiskeyron, no.. I just think people think they lose info if they switch off their hub, and I'm a believer in switching things off when not in use!

tbh, I was surprised they could tell it had been left on all that time :o)
I think it was a fob. ours stays on day and night and has done for the past year! we have had to reset it occasionally but never turn it off. Every time we renew our BT sub they send us the newest hub as part of the renew deal..the price usually goes down as well...we have never had to ask for a new hub, they just say its part of the renewal package.
If you have the new BT HomeHub, do not switch it Off as it has an Automatic Upgrade facility. Upgrades can occur at anytime so the HH should be left on 24hrs a day.
If you do get an Upgrade you will not be able to connect to the Internet until it has finished doing so.
There is also a Re-set Button on bottom right of the Home Hub.
Have a look at this Link as it should explain why you had no Internet.

oops -I should have posted here -same problem.
I had no joy from AOL at all.Had to reconfigure router -luckily I found an automatic way to do it (luck?) and hey presto just it came back on immediately. If i'd known it was a fault I wouldnt have wasted so much time trying to rectify it and AOL just kept saying no problem when i spoke with them when on their recorded intro they said there was-they dont half do my nut in :)
We've got a white home hub from BT - thankfully no problems here, but we keep it switched on 24/7. The last time we had a power cut we had to ring India, they rang me back and were extraorinarily helpful in getting it set up again. No suggestion that we need to switch it off at all, sounds like a very iffy diagnosis to me.
They dont help me as the router I have isnt supported by AOL (ZyXel) so I had to wing it as the hekp desk for ZyXel is only open Mon-Fri.
Must look into BT Hub or change of provider !
We used to have a netgear router. Excellent got techie types not so good for me! We switched to the bt hub when they gave us a free one and it's great, really easy.
