Having trouble with 26a (clue) Refusal dictated in eastern drama N?H - perhaps I have gone wrong with other answers. Any help would be much appreciated.

Could be Noh, as in Noh theatre

Just a suggestion MaryDou - noh is in Chambers dictionary - could you treat yourself to a copy? And of course, there is always Chambers and other dictionaries online.

I put NAH because it is an informal word for NO and figured the A could be taken from ASIA which is EASTERN. And also Eastern Drama = Asian Acting.I might be well wide of the mark.What do you think?

Biley, I was only trying to put my point across and my reasoning for coming up with my answer. In no way did I intimate that NOH was the wrong answer.I just asked for other peoples opinion. Lighten up.

Oh for goodness sake, fergol - your reasoning doesn;t matter - it only takes a quick look at a dictionary to confirm NOH as the correct answer as both justineo and I have said it was. Why on earth do you want other peoples opinion when it can be proved very quickly that justineo was right?

There is a repertory of some 250 pieces, of which five, one from each of the several classes devoted to different subjects, may be put on in a performance lasting a whole day. Dance, mime, music, and chanting develop the mythical or historical themes. All the actors are men, some of whom wear masks and elaborate costumes; scenery is limited. Noh influenced kabuki drama.
