Prices in Ireland are roughly in line with those in the UK (but hotel accommodation in Dublin can be fairly expensive).
For a first visit though, Dublin is definitely a good place to start. (There's quite a bit to do and to see, without needing a car - as you might do elsewhere in Ireland).
