great loss, his comic timing was genius. If ever I feel a little 'down' I pop in a 'Naked Gun' DVD, never fails to cheer me up!

Real ray of sunshine gone from the world. He had the sendoff he deserved, too - peacefully, in his sleep and with family and friends all around at a ripe old age.

He was also the ships captain in the 1972 film Poseidon Adventure.

In fact when you watch him in that film now it is hard to take him seriously, when he taks about the huge wave coming towards the ship.

It is alsmost like some cruise ship comedy disaster movie.

In fact I have always thought their is a great comedy potential in a cruise ship comedy / disaster movie. Like Airplane but on a boat.

Aw no :-( that's really sad - he was one of my favourite comedy actors from that side of the ocean. I loved (still love) Police Squad, Airplane, the Naked Gun series of films.
He also played a great role in one of the short films in Creepshow.
A great loss.

I am watching Naked Gun 2 1/2 in commemoration.
