Asda brought my shopping today and brought cinammon sticks instead of ground cinammon (I had ticked no substitutes but never mind). Am I right in thinking that if I bash a bit of this up it will become ground(ish) cinammon? Thanks

Correctamundo ... 1 stick will probably give you about ½ a teaspoon of ground.
Grind it fine though ... :-)
You'll end up with broken woody pieces. Depending on your dish, couldn't you just use the stick or sticks whole, as they do in curries, and remove them when the dish is ready?
