I just took this photo of parakeets in a tree in our garden. How do they survive these winters ?

They are the progeny from escapees over the year and seem to be well established nowadays. They are extremely hardy and the only problem the snow would bring is that they won't be able to find their seed so easily, the same as for other birds. They breed in holes in trees and pose some competition for woodpeckers etc.
