Yes I have ENCOUNTERS for 19a Come across the bar to interrupt three card players.

but why? Card players are COUNTERS but where do the E, N and S come from? Something to do with BAR?

Also, ENCOUNTERS should be COMES ACROSS not COME across?

bar = counter
E, N + S are players in the game of Bridge
I agree, the clue should read 'comes across' - another case of bad editing of this crossword.

Thanks! But still think it should be comeS across
Try equalizing - get it - crosssing the bar (Equator)
Try equalizing.

Crossing the bar refers to equator
Adding a fourth makes equal.
