You might ask yourself what the difference is between a £23 policy and a £100 policy (other than £77). From my experience is it mostly down to exclusions, and how easy it is to get a payment from the insurance company.
I have used one of the cheap annual world-wide policies (although did not make a claim), the reason being besides me being a tight-wad, if I was to loose all my luggage – it would not worry me unduly (Mrs Hymie would worry for both of us). But if I was to become hospitalised, and require repatriation that could cost many thousands of pounds, I would be very concerned (for both my health and wealth).
So I guess you make your choice, and pays your money.
Don’t forget your EHIC card for Europe – I reckon you might be better off using this in Europe, without the hassle of claiming off insurance (of course it won’t cover you for lost luggage).
