Can I unplug my PC ?

I will apologise in advance for rambling on but this is a bit difficult to explain... here goes ... I have been using a PC for years which is upstairs and was wired to the modem, and I now use my laptop all the time, even for printing. I only switch on the PC to do a scan, as it is wireless connected to the modem now, and sometimes the laptop wont connect to the internet unless I remember to do a scan monthly with Microsoft Security Essentials on the PC. I also have Microsoft Security Essentials on the laptop. The laptop wouldnt work downstairs while the PC was plugged into the modem upstairs, so I had the PC made 'wireless' with a little widget thing that plugs in, it looks like a memory stick. The modem is now downstairs and works perfectly with the laptop and the PC upstairs. So can I just unplug the PC as I dont use it, and just use the laptop ? Please don't get technical with me !!

Yes I can, chuck or yes you agree with ZebUK ? Does the laptop have to go 'through' the main PC? I had a guy here fiddling about with the PC for a couple of hours, when he made the PC 'wire less' and put on the widget thingy. This was because the laptop wouldn't work with the modem being upstairs. I am a bit worried about pulling the plug in case it stops the laptop working, and then if I put the plug back in, would the laptop connect ... I suppose if I had a power cut I would have the same problem though .. am I rambling again ?? OH yes and sometimes when the laptop crashes I have to switch on the PC upstairs, and the green light is red and the internet is not connected, I fiddle about and it works again. So it seems to me that the laptop is connected through the PC .....

Basically if the PC is turned off then the PC is doing nothing and can be unplugged perfectly OK.

I don't think you doing a scan on the PC is doing anything to bring back your connection either, more likely just coincidence.
