Cable from pc tower to tv?

Have new tower with VGAx1,DVIx 1 etc. and want to temporarily connect to a Sanyo 32" with VGA (HD15) port and HDMI. This pc is to be used for gaming and has a fast graphics card. until I can buy a dedicated monitor what cable do I need please and does it have to be VGA to VGA or can I make use of the HDMI to DVI??? Any good cableware sites would also be appreciated too.

This isn't as straight forward as some might think.

Generally speaking neither VGA or DVI will output audio so you'll need an audio cable as well as a video cable so taking that in to account VGA would be the easier option as the TV will have the correct audio input to go with the VGA input (HDMI inputs won't have a separate audio input to go with them)

However..... Some ATI graphics cards can output audio through the DVI connector in a non-standard way which can then be used to combine the video and audio in a HDMI cable, but only if the special DVI - HDMI adaptor supplied with the card is used.

So....

If you have an ATI graphics card that supports audio out on the DVI and you use the correct adaptor then DVI - HDMI - TV will work and give you video and audio.

If you don't have a ATI card that supports audio on the DVI then VGA is your only option if you want sound through the TV as well as video. (but you'll need a separate audio cable)

I have an HD 5450 Radeon 1GB dedicated graphics card. I'm just going to look through the booklet.

That card has a HDMI port on it, so just use that and a HDMI cable.

You'll have to change the systems default audio playback device to ATI HDMI audio to get sound but it will work fine

(I have one of those in my computer connected to a TV by HDMI)

Additionally...

You'll almost certainly find that if you connect using a HDMI lead the picture won't fill the screen, there is a setting in the ATI catalyst control centre software called scaling options that will fix that but it's a pain to find:)
