It is a media discretion, in the same way that someone who is smashed out of his brains is referred to as 'tired and emotional', and gay women are referred to as 'ladies in comfortable shoes'.

It's just a way of inferring a situation without the danger of libel.
A man who is too mean to get married.
I have friends and they are "confirmed" bachelors, and they are most definitely NOT gay, just don't want to get married...EVER!! A bachelor was a word we heard more in the past. Nowadays people just seem to say "single".Bachelor and single are ok words but "spinster" is such a horrible word. It implies sitting alone, knitting, crocheting and looking after a million smelly cats. "Bachelors" and "singles" definitely seem to have more fun.
Confirmed bachelor was a euphamism back in the day when it was illegal to be actively gay; you could not say a person was homosexual.
What about Bachelor's Savoury Rice, for those who can remember it? Is that gay too?

No, in response to your question, this has nothing to do with being gay. I am a bachelor at the moment, but this is not through choice, as would love to find the right person to settle down with. Any single ladies out there want to meet me?
I'm about to hit 70 without ever being married although I've "lived in sin" with a couple of girls ( not at the same time) and had several affairs - I suppose I'm a confirmed bachelor but I'm definitely not gay ! I just like the solo life.
Well Roger, that sums it up then , the good life without commitment and nothing wrong with that.
