I am just posting because if your doctor said you shouldn't get it at your age, I think he is very unwise. I have had arthritis in the top of my spine and neck since my teens. This causes exactly the same problems as you describe. I am now 58. It can be eased and physiotherapy has helped me more than anything else. The physio taught me some neck exercises which really helped. At that time I was beginning to think I would never get rid of the pain. I was able to get this on the NHS through my doctor.
Good luck and try not to worry as tension and worry can make this sort of pain so much worse.

Hi, I too get muscvle spasms in the same areas. I get an attack every now and then, usually lasting about a week or so. I too have used the cream which is an anti inflammetry and strong pain killers but it does little to relieve the pain. I think my muscle spasm is related to my job, I work as an healthcare professional and am always bending and lifting and if I have been sitting near a draught. I have also been in three car accidents where I have had whip lash, I think this also has something to do with the muscle spasm, although I also sometimes get muscle spasm in the top of my right thigh, which prevents me from lifting my leg, or sitting! I would be very interested to know if it is rheumatoid athritis but my GP says I would have to have problems in lots of joints at the same time? I have not been referred to anyone.Hope this has helped and hope you havent anything serious.
