Did you download it from Sun?
This download? .. http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Do you have anything showing under .. Add/Remove Programs ...
Java (TM) 6 update 23?
Are you sure it does not say JavaScript is not enabled and not Java.

Javascript and Java are not the same thing.

You say you downloaded Java, have you actually run the install program to install it.

Just downloading it will not install it.
I have the same problem. In "add/remove programs" it says "Java 6 update 23" with the option to remove it. However, when I go to a site that requires Java I get a message saying "Sorry you don't have a Java enabled browser". I have Windows XP and IE.
Hope you don't mind me joining in your question, shellac 2:)
I have even Googled the problem and have followed the instructions to click on "tools", "security", "custom level", etc, etc and I still get the message "Sorry you don't have a Java enabled browser". Any ideas, anyone?
You guys .. have you Java disabled in Internet Explorer?
Internet Options .. Advanced .. Java UNticked in list ...
or Security (Internet) settings slider too high. Try Med-High.
If you use custom entries, check those settings.
What browser you using S?
"it stated on screen download is complete"
After you download it, you need to install it.
AB, I use IE. Also, Java is downloaded according to my list of programs.
... and your IE settings .. (if Java is showing in Add/Remove Programs) ?
What do you mean by "IE settings", AI?
Hi ..
Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/look down the list for Java (Sun) use JRE

Is that option there at all .. and unticked? If there and not ticked .. tick it.
If not there, it is not installed. You sure you downloaded it .. and tried to install it?
If you have problems installing it, try disabling your antivirus while you do.
Al.
It is installed, and everything is enabled; however, it still doesn't "work": I give up. Thanks for your interest, AI. I wonder what happened to shellac.
