Could you poison yourself with nicotine anti-smoking tablets?

I'm using 'Niquitin' 4mg tablets to stop smoking. I'm taking a lot more than the recommended dose. Are they safe?

Sqad, If you do not know the tablets that are clearly mentioned in the QA's opening statement then why make a statement that is liable to scare Sandy and send her rushing back to cigarettes which have even more toxins in them.

I have no doubt that the statement you made is true when backed up with the study that you later mention, however if you dont know about something, as in the Niquitin Product, please keep your scaremongering to yourself.

sandyroe.....stop fretting but stick to the recommended dose spread out as they say...loads of people have come of cigarettes using replacements or switch to a different delivery method if you are worried

sandy, could you stay off the cigs with 15 tabs daily ? im sure you are aware there are numerous methods of stopping available. good luck

I started using the highest dose of nicotine patches, which actually turned out to be more than I had smoked so I got 'nicotine poisoning' which included palpitations, vomiting and fainting. So please please please stick to the dose you've been told!

When I quit for a few months some years ago (and was stupid enough to start again) I went to a pharmacy and bought patches, gum and an inhalator from the chemist himself. Wasn't until I got home and bothered reading all the info leaflets that I found out that you aren't supposed to use one than more method at a time so you don't overdo the nicotine!

So I went for the patches and kept the inhalator on standby for a couple of emergency moments.

I asked my GP about trying Champix the other day during a routine appointment and was told he couldn't discuss it. Asked at reception about a no smoking clinic to be told they don't do it and go to the chemist down the road (which was shut). Apparantly they have to bid for services like that these days and didn't get it!

So not sure if will be able to try Champix from a chemist as I believe it's on prescription?

I found patches great the first time, constant slow release of Nicotine took the edge off big time. Tried them again but they don't seem to have the same effect/I don't have the same will power/determination.

If not, try it .. You WILL cut down on anything .. as you'll be too out of it to do anything : )

Jenna - the stop smoking clinics are staffed by people who can give the prescriptions for the NRT - mine is just a stand in a shopping centre! So if the chemist won the bid they can prescibe it for you. Good luck :)
