Numbing cream for tattoos

Hi im in the process of getting my fourth tattoo designed. It will be a large tattoo starting on the side of my stomach and going up my side and on my hip. I was ok with my other three tats but they are fairly small compared to this. I was wanting to know if numbing cream does work and which make is the best? Also the tattoo will be more than one sitting so will I be able to re apply the cream on my second sitting? Thanks for you answers in advance

It's called EMLA and it's the same cream used for children when a general anesthetic is needed. It's aka 'magic cream'.

When I had my tattoo done I the tattooist asked about using this cream and was advised that it's quite possible the cream only numbs the top layers and therefore doesn't do what you want it to but can actually make it more painful because it's more a concentrated pain

I didn't use the cream and in all honesty after less than 30 seconds it really wasn't painful at all until he went over the bone, that did hurt but was bearable

If you decide to use it, then you can of course, use it at any other sittings you may need but you will need a largish amount as it comes in quite small tubes and costs around £5 per tube.

EMLA works fine on my skin. But thats for injections and blood tests. Im a wimpy adult :)

Thanks for all your advice and no I won't regret it I have not just spontaneously thought I would have this tattoo. It has a lot of meaning and will be a art work. I didn't ask if I would regret it as that would be a no brainer. Thanks again.
