At the risk of irritating Jake again, there are no right or wrong answers, no absolutes here.

Neither UK or US regulated the banks, while giving them the signals to lend like crazy.

In the UK, though, we let personal card debt become a way of life.
We let building societies lend on crazy earnings multiples
Gordon's super PFI wheeze let him look like a man with a magic wand, while storing up debts for our children to pay.

I don't think any politicial party has all the answers, and could run a corner shop.

Labour's idea is to centralise everything, to make it all free, and to pat for it by high taxation and borrowing. (I'm an ancient FCA and remember when their tax rate on investment income was 105p in the pound).

The Tories' idea is to leave as much as possible to private enterprise, namely their buddies.

The LIB Dems are just desperate to stay in power after an eternity on the sidelines (AV anyone?)
