Climate change programme on BBC4.

Did anyone watch the climate change programme that was on BBC4 on monday night and what did you think of it. I don't think it made many valid points either way. Sometimes it made out that sceptics were radicals but I don't think that was an agenda of the programme. All in all I don't think it was all that useful in the climate change debate and the end message was basically, look there are more people saying climate change is man made, than people who disagree that it is man made, therefore believe the majority. It neglected to mention any vested interests of the scientists promoting climate change theory.

What are your views on this issue? Did you see the programme and if so what did you think of it's message, if anything?

I' m with you Andyvon accept for the 'Both sides draw upon a wealth of data and different scientific studies'. which is simply not true. The aurguement is is now way equal scientifically - the aurguement for non human influence is akin to creationalism.in terms of scientific basis.

And your view is a little pesamistic, yes i absolutely agree with you that in the past life has been wiped out and recoverded anew but in all the period of life on earth we have never seen evidence of a species as advanced as out - a species that have reached every habitat on the planet, even across the solar system,who have specualtd on the true nature of graviy, energy and matter, infact theorised on the very nature of the universe. Why not allow oneself to consider the possiblility that we could survive longer than a few thound years and even get off this crazy rock spinning round the sun and live in yet more habitats.

Its more positive, and heck - a little more fun, than saying we're all doomed, doomed I tell yar and just keep on muddling round in our own flth till the end of days - which we would only have ourselves to blame for. As I said before, (and this time I tae it from that great peice of cinimatography 'Ghost Buster' "if we're wrong we'll go to jail...we'llenjoy it! But hey, if we're right then you...Lenny...would have saved the lives of billions of registered voters!"

Maybe I am a little pessimistic but I can't see us sorting out even the most fundamental problems and issues affecting us today so that's what I draw upon. Nor do I think our intelligence, intellect or current scientific understanding will enable us to continue indefinitely into the future. We are already overcrowding the planet and food, water and fuel supplies are limited. We are starting to struggle already. 3 out of 5 people in the world are malnourished, fuel reserves are disappearing and water is desperately short almost everywhere. Meanwhile, the demand for food, water and fuel continues to soar.

That's enough of that! It does seem to me that there are two camps with equally valid points to make about our affect on the climate. Perhaps the truth of the matter is that science still doesn't really know.

sorry andyvon but the current science does point strongly to man made change - the differences between now and previous changes is down to us, period. So i would welcome your science version that give equal weighting to the 'not our problem' aurguement. Honestly please try and back up your opinion wit fact it helps to do that.

As I previously said....read up an then form an opinon. I know you are trying to sound all diplomatic but infact you are fueling the conspiracy band wagon with un founded assumption that both sides have a rational scientific oint - they simply dont.

Why doesn't the media give doubters of man-made climate change a voice to the people of this country? When I hear that people like David Bellamy and Johnny Ball are ignored it annoys me that the media is biassed. A few years ago a tv programme showed that many doubting scientists were physically and mentally threatened, their research grants at risk and their families threatened. I think that governments and big business have got themselves so involved in climate change that none of them dare to show more doubts. Millions and millions of pounds are being spent on something that is questionable. That money could be spent on useful purposes.

When I hear that people like David Bellamy and Johnny Ball are outcasts because they shed doubt on the man-made theory, there is indication of bias on this matter. I don't think any of the governments or big businesses would dare to begin to show doubts because so much prestige and money is involved. Those millions of pounds could be spent on many worthwhile projects.

Jake, this subject was aired back on 5th March 2007. I am sorry to say that you like to keep things as they are. I remember how you wanted the UK to join the EU currency and ridiculed my use of magnets back in January 2007. I have to tell you that I am still getting great benefits from them. Most GPs are narrow minded in such matters. They stick only to subjects taught in medical school without considering what value alternatives may offer. My GP just says "It hasn't been evaluated".
