Bought a New (second hand car) yesterday.
got my insurance sorted (certificate will take a few days to come)
Its got 12month mot.
retained the little green slip as proof of owner ship, dealer sent the other part to DVLA.
but its got no tax!
according to the little green slip which was part of the vehicle reg docs, I can use that to tax my car when my insurance cert come's.
but someone said if I tax it before March I will lose a months tax (ie most of Feb)
Is This True?
not desperate to use the car as its a second car and not our main car and it will be on our driveway!
so is it worth waiting to March to tax it?
"Is this true?"
Yes. If you tax a car now, you'll be paying for 6 (or 12) months, which includes all of the current month and a further 5 (or 11) months.
If you tax it at the start of March, you'll be paying for the whole of that month, plus another 5 (or 11) months.
Thanks.....I will wait till March and Mrs Incred will have to use the bus to the do the grocery shopping :o)........or I could let her use my car, but in never feels the same after she's moved the seats and mirrors and left her carpenter's cd in the player!!!!!!!
If you apply in the last two working days of a month, the tax disc can start on the first day of the next month. If you apply before then, your tax disc will be backdated to the start of the current month. (Saturday is classed as a working day at Post Office branches).
Thus you can physically purchase a tax disc on Sat 26th or Mon 28th and be able you to use the car first thing on Tues 1st March.
