Harness instead of lead . . .

My dog had very bad kennel cough when we first got her from the shelter. It took 2 rounds of v strong antibiotics, and lots of me spoon feeding her cough mixture and honey for it to clear.
A couple of years later I now notice that she still is very sensitive around her throat ie if she pulls on her collar/lead etc.
She is generally good on the lead but for the times that she does pull, or I need to pull her back, I was thinking of getting her a harness instead of attaching her lead to her collar.

Has anyone else used a harness and what do i need to consider?

Thanks.

If she pulls occasionally get one of those harnesses where the leash attaches to the front (chest) part. This makes it hard for her to pull straight as it almost forces her off balance.
Alternatively, you could try a Halti collar

Or a padded harness like this- http://dog-games-shop...it-fleece-dog-harness

Thanks for your answers.
I think I will have a look at getting a padded harness.
I use the fleece padded harnesses too, not for the same reason, but they are excellent.....see the feedback.

That's a great looking site...I like the looks of some of the toys also. A bit different and not a bad price either.
Jules....are those your collies in the 'comments' section?
Lovely dogs.

I am considering getting one of those for my lurcher Sally-she is rather nervous, pulls and dances when she sees other dogs...and wants to run when there are children approaching.
It's not doing my poor arms any good....lol
I would suggest getting 5 other dogs, and then harnessing them all. You could them get them to pull you around in a cart, or a sledge if it is snowing.

Or did you only want sensible suggestions?
^^^^ LOL
Yes Pastafreak, mine is the comment against the photo of the tri coloured rough collie, and my website is underneath the comments 'rusforth rough collies', and thank you, I am very proud of them.
hiya i have three dogs and they all have harness but they are all small dogs, i had a giant schnauzer and they had to have a collar as he was so strong and a harness makes them pull more as a natral instinct, such as the sledge pulling husky. so it depends on the indiviual dog
