Iv got an appointment tomorrow to possibly claim this benefit (but I work part time so Im going to enquire about income support). They have asked for me to bring in various bits of paperwork, one item being a P45 or P60... I have neither of these... My last job was for a big cruise ship company and they just dont give you p45's as they've got thousands of people working for them (and they're quite badly organised) and my curent job have never given me a p60.... does anyone know how important these things are for benefit claim...? Iv never claimed before and suffering some tough times so thought id look into it for some short term help....

Even if you can't claim any money, you can sign on for credits to your N.I. that keeps you up to date for when you want to retire.

I do feel for you, but there has to be a cut-off point somewhere for earnings.

O thanks Het, Im aware of what il be able to get when I start uni (this comin sept) but its just until then, mum and I are going to have to move out of the family home we've lived in for 22 years so we're gonna need all the financial help we can get as she hasn't worked since she gave up being a teacher to raise me and my bro in the 70's, then worked alongside dad...
Thanks guys, he didnt actually mention about the NI being paid so I may look into that, every little bit helps I suppose! Its funny because I looked and applied online, then had to go through a phone call and THEN the face to face interview thing this morning, There's nothing to say about this little 'loop hole' and no one mentioned it over the phone... I just thought that an honest person who is going through a tough time could get help from her country for a couple of months... obviously not! Again... grrrrrrrrrrr.... Its been a baaaad day...

How old is your mum? If she is over 60 she could apply for Pension Credit. Start thinking of your mum claiming the benefit not yourself - just an idea. Good luck
