Staying at my sisters flat while they are away and I'm starving. There is a Tesco chicken and bacon sub in the fridge that has an expiry date of yesterday. Will it still be ok to eat or would asking this question be the last thing I ever did?
tell your sister that if she ever wants you to flat sit again, there has to be lots of yummy food in the fridge, otherwise, no way!.............Least she can do!.....
I can't complain about her. She did leave me £30 cash and a £50 voucher for Selfridges so I don't think I've done too badly for staying at their flat for 3 nights.
Despite what best before dates actually say, the food doesn't turn into instant poison at the stroke of midnight. As long as it isn't weeks old, you'll be fine.
Milly - just to be on the safe side so that you can't sue them if anything does go wrong (highly unlikely). they allow a couple of days over. I have eaten things several days over and nothing has happened. Unless I have a stomach like cast iron, and I don't think so.
On a serious note .... when we moved house (last year) I found a Colman's sauce mix from 1997. I was gonna throw it but OH insisted it'd be okay. (He's a real Yorkshireman).
Actually, come to think of it - he's not .... he was born in Oxfordshire ....
Anyhoo - I made a spaghetti bolognaise with it and it was lovely.
You'll be fine milly, I'd certainly have eaten it, I'd probably eat it up until about next Wednesday. I ate a yoghurt yesterday that was best before 11 December, it was absolutely OK.
