My car has developed a creaking sound when pulling away in 1st gear. It sometimes does it when changing up the gears but not as loud or for as long as from take off. i am guessing its something to do with vibrations of pulling away. it's been sat for a while until this morning when it was taken to MOT, I noticed the sound, I have checked for anything in the boot which could be knocking and there is nothing in there that could be causing it. I have had a brief look under the car but can't see anything out of the ordinary, its a front wheel drive car. any suggestions appreciated. thanks.

Spray the very tops of the strut mountings and the top of the spring area with WD40 (soak it) and try it again.
The cold/salt dries out the bushes, and the spring can creak in it's seat.
