There are two pubs on either side of the river. One of them is the Mischief Tavern (which has basic, but incredibly cheap, food and some decent real ale). I can't remember the name of the other one. (It's quite a decent pub too). But the King's Head is further towards Anglia Square, on the same side of the road:

My apologies for not replying to your post.
The cat which has been going in and out of my cat flap for the last hour or so speaks in a language (and with an accent) which could be understood anywhere in the world. She's saying "Where's the fuss" and "Where's the tuna"!
Officially she's not my cat. (She's meant to live a couple of doors down the road). But she knows where she gets treated the best ;-)

. . . and that's the name I couldn't remember (or, indeed, find quickly on Google!).
The King's Head doesn't serve food (except for Gloucester Old Spot pork pies) and you can't get draught lager (although there's a superb range of Belgian and German bottled beers). It simply serves real ales and ciders (together with the usual wines, etc). It's a lovely, cosy little pub, with no piped music but with a bar billiards table in the back room. It repeatedly wins loads of awards.

South Wales superior???
Cardiff competes with Brussels for the title of the most boring capital city in Europe. Swansea isn't exactly the most exciting or attractive place in the UK. OK, I admit to having a soft spot for Porthcawl but South Wales can't compete with North Wales (and it's almost impossible to get a decent pint of beer in either area).
