Why is Ben wearing hearing aids again when he hasn't had them since he came out of prison (and also, they seem to be coloured bits on the back of his ears, but nothing going in his actual ears)?

He has always worn them - only now, they are attached to his glasses (they have been making hearing aids like this for a long time) - there will be a very fine tube with a small ear mould at base which inserts in the ear, it's not visible unless you are very close up to the wearer or like it could be like netibiza said.
