Do you believe in Magic?

About 3 weeks ago, i watched a programme called 'Do you believe in magic?'. It interviewed an author called Pulman(?) who had written a book about a boy who finds a secret passage way to another world. I know this is really vague but could anyone tell me the title of the book, its sounds great!!

The author is called Philip Pullman and yes the books are fantastic. It's a trilogy the first being Northern Lights, the second is the Subtle Knife and the third is the Amber spyglass. Well worth a read, stick with the first on and you'll not want them to end.
